Finally Making it Big in Korea

Yesterday Dane's boss invited us to go with her while she appeared on an internet broadcast. She invites him along for things every few days. Personally, I think she likes to show him off as her little white inter who can speak intelligible Korean, but she takes us along to some pretty cool events so that's fine by me.

We thought it would just be some little local radio studio, and that we would just listen from another room. It turns out that this guys actually has quite a following online and broadcasts solo from his van, in which he travels around the country doing these interviews. Also, it would be a live video broadcast, and we would be appearing on it with some of her friends. I've never wished I spoke Korean more than then.

The topic was the underground railroad from North Korea to South Korea and the importance of social networking to issues like this. What I got from it was all very interesting, and the whole thing was pretty casual, like we were sitting on camping chairs outside his trailor eating biscuits and tea while the whole thing was being filmed. Mostly, they had fun teasing us for being foreigners, so we just smiled and played the part. It really was a fun night, and we're very lucky that Dane's boss includes us on these unique experiences.

Oh, and if you're curious to see the broadcast, you can visit this link (http://tvpot.daum.net/my/scrap/ScrapView.do?playlistid=749316&clipid=32872973&page=1&lu=ex_playlist_scrap). Hopefully it works. If not, you can try going to www.wing365.com, although the site is in Korean, so I'm not sure how to direct you to the clip except that it is the first one to select as of now and shows a man and a women sitting in front of a red backdrop.

The "studio".
The equipment. It is crazy how much he packs in that little van.
This was the shows host. He's all about internet media and social networks. He tried to make me promise to let Dane buy an iPhone while we were live, but I held my ground.
Dane with his boss. Her main focus is managing Saejowi (Dane's NGO), but she is involved with a lot of things.
This is a bad picture of us on the screen while we are live. Everyone else was on iPhones or computers (apparently that is the thing to do on this show), so I didn't feel too bad.
