Weird Foods

First of all, I have absolutely loved the food in Korea. It's usually spicy and served boiling hot, but the flavors are so different that it has been fun to try so many new things. They always serve everything with kimchi and rice, but instead of getting tired of these sides, I'm going to miss them a lot. These pictures are some of the funny things we've come across.

This is Patbingsu, or red beans, fruit, and ice-cream. Red beans have basically taken over Asia. There is red bean bread. Red bean ice-cream bars. Red bean soup. Red bean candies. Even just red beans by themselves.
This just made me laugh, first because of the way they use chocoholic.
And second because I have never heard of a walnut and red bean addiction. *Red bean doughnuts.
Similar to their fascination of red beans is their love of corn. These are little custard filled breads that always make the metro smell really good. Pizza and popsicles are the other two popular uses of corn.

I hope you can appreciate the irony of kimchi pickles.

The dish to the right of the black bowl is the only thing that Dane has not liked. It looked like fish parts in sauce, but I don't know for sure because he told me to not even try it.
That is a hunk of dog in my chopsticks. The other really different thing that people eat here are little millworms in a cup. I figure this is a much better way to be bold than that.

Triangle kimbab. Usually comes in rolls like we see, but these are really popular too.
Duk is the sticky mass that you get after you pound rice down. They usually make it into a thick noodle, but they have a lot of snack and sweet varieties too. This is probably the thing I will miss most, as there isn't really a substitute for it in the US.

  1. I think I would eat dog if I could have ice cream with beans afterwards. I am jealous of your life right now. Really. We must all go there some day.
