About a month ago I was feeling rather bored, which is when I got the idea to do a charity gift wrap like I used to in high school. It's kind of like what Lucy says to Charlie in a Charlie Brown Christmas:
"You need involvement. You'll need to get involved in some real Christmas project. How would you like to be the director of our Christmas play?"
Directing isn't really my thing, but I called Barnes & Noble to see if we could wrap gifts for their customers and receive donations, and they said they'd even provide the paper. Well the project turned out great, and I have a lot of friends who really came through for me and helped out. We earned over $500 for Community Action (the Provo food bank), and my friend Kaitlan who works for them responded with this:
"With every $1 we are able to produce up to 17 lbs of food or create 5 meals. So that is 2,717
meals or 9,239 lbs of food! That money will also go to help pay to
give families temporary housing, provide warm winter clothes, and help
prevent foreclosures. Thank you so much for setting all this up!
Merry Christmas!"
I love Christmas, I love this time of year, and it really has made a difference to have something fun like that to focus on. Some people were so sweet to donate without asking to have anything wrapped. Some people gave and mentioned that they were in situations where they've depended on charity before, so it really came from the heart. I love seeing that side of humanity, and I am grateful to everyone who helped and everyone who donated to make the project a success.
Just made them, absolutely delicious--I did like them better the second day--but the chance any are left for the second day is remote.
