We live in such a real world

I was doing my daily perusal through the newspapers and came across this article:

It's not much different than the other articles detailing the doom and gloom of the economy right now, except when it made more direct reference to the families living through this.“We think of America as a place where every generation is doing better, but we’re looking at a period when the median family is in worse shape than it was in the late 1990s.” I'm grateful my parents have jobs, I'm grateful that Dane and I have jobs, and I think I need to do more for the poor in Utah.
