Safari

This weeks adventure was the long awaited safari to Queen Elizabeth. Our first day was spent taking a boat out to Ngamba island to see the chimp refuge. The complexity in their behavior was so fun to watch, and I really felt like I learned a lot more about these great apes that the other animals we would see later--like that apes are really quite different from monkeys--who knew.

Day two, we took a boat tour on Lake George to see animals come to their watering hole. I honestly was much more looking forward to the game drive the next day, but it turns out we saw so much more here. The quantity and diversity of wildlife was very impressive, so much so that the pods of hippos we saw in the last fifteen minutes of the ride were less surprising than the one we saw in the first fifteen.

Even though we did see fewer animals on the game drive, we tracked into four lions, and you really can't beat that for a safari experience. Our guide warned us that they are more aggressive now because it is mating season, but they seemed pretty happy to ignore us and walk away after staring at us for awhile.
