Today I worked up all my gumption and braved the NYC DMV. The lines were as bad as I thought, but the people were nicer, so now I am officially a New Yorker. Then I went and got a library card too, so I am all ready to go.
Up until now, I really have been pretty busy setting up the apartment and nervously prepping for my first job interview (which went pretty well), so I haven't been doing as much adventuring, but today I finally got out a little more. The library was having a special exhibit about the New York lunch hour where they had vintage lunchboxes and soda fountains. Did you know that "shake a white" is lunch counter talk for a plain milkshake? The rest of the building is all marble interior and painted ceilings, so I spent some time wandering there too. Then I heard some great jazz piano as I walked through Bryant Park, which always has tons of events going on, including yoga on Thursday night, which I fully intend on taking advantage of. The subway is still miserably hot, and I still am not sure how most people afford to live here, but I find myself liking this place more and more.
You are amazingly adaptable to your circumstances, my dear! I can't wait to have you show us all your new little finds and loves in November.
